Our big fat Greek adventure.

Jet setting again, this time we’re off to Athens. We spent 4 days here. These 4 days I spent mostly huffing and puffing. It was so much hotter than Rome.

We arrived in Syntagma square with two massive suitcases, in which several strops happened before actually arriving in the square because I couldn’t lift the bleeding things onto the escalators or up the stairs. Then we got lost trying to find our apartment. It ended up being down this really dark and scary corridor which had no lights and 100s of stairs, and the most scary elevator I have ever seen. But, once in the apartment it was fab. We had a cracking view and had a Greek bar below us which gave such an authentic atmosphere.

We visited everything we possibly could and the majority was in walking distance such as the Acropolis (which sold the best slush puppy I have ever tasted!), Parthenon, Ancient Agora, Benaki, Mount Lycabettus and the National Gardens. I’m guessing we visited more but literally everytime I saw a bench or somewhere to sit, you would find me straight there. The relief of getting away from the burning sun for 5 minutes was just heaven, so I excelled in trying to park my bottom wherever I could.

The food was amazing but I didn’t capture enough photo’s because I was too busy scoffing but everywhere I went I had to have a baklava. They.are.heaven. The best place we found to eat was a restaurant called Ergon. Everyone was super friendly, the food was to die for and best of all there was a restaurant cat called Salem (me being the crazy cat lady that I am).
You get such a city buzz in Athens but then in parts you get the overly touristy hot spots which we tried to stay away from, sometimes I felt like I was in Benidorm.
On one of the days we took an adventure on the tram to a beach. It was the longest tram journey of my life. I hated just sitting there for well over an hour feeling like a blatant tourist and making that awkward eye contact with the locals, makes me shiver thinking about it. To top it off once we got the beach it was overcrowded and we felt like we we’re in Weston Super Mare. So we headed back to catch the next tram back to stop off at a previous beach. The tram was desolate so we sat there for a while waiting for it to start back up, but in the meantime we got approached by a group of kids who tried to mug us. They were only about 10 years old all with tattoos. So we had to leg it back to the overcrowded beach. We sat there in misery for a good hour trying to comprehend what just happened and to recharge our confidence. We did make it home eventually and my gosh we we’re so happy to get back to the apartment, it was just one of those days but we didn’t let it ruin our holiday. It’s part of the adventure.. right?
Have you ever been to Athens? What was your favourite part?

For me my favourite part was the National Gardens, a tranquil hotspot which gave a hint of tropical-ness. That’s definitely a word now.
It was so beautiful, huge gigantic trees, ponds, wildlife and SHADE. What’s not to love. It was lush to have that balance of nature but to be in the middle of a bustling city. It was definitely the highlight for me.
It was great to visit Athens and I’m glad I can tick it off our places we’ve visited list, but would I go back? I’m not so sure. If I’m honest if it was just the two of us I wouldn’t but if you went with a group of friends I think it would be phenomenal.

An Italian Adventure.

This is definitely the best time of year. I am currently sat on the sofa in a cosy red tartan blanket with the blinds closed and candles on. It’s ready to rock and roll these typing skills.
I can nearly hear the faint sound of those jingle bells. Yeah, I went there.

Earlier this year we took a 2 week adventure travelling to some hot spots in Europe. First on our hit list was Rome. What a place. It was incredible but I felt like I didn’t fully appreciate the magnificence of it until our trip came to an end. In unfamiliar territory my body goes into panic mode in which we rocked up at around 10.00pm while trying to navigate the airport and the connecting trains through very sleepy eyes. Oh and it was the Euro’s football final, talk about timing. By the time we arrived at Termini it was gone 11pm and all the trains and buses had stopped highly stressful when we had specific instructions to get the bus to get to our destination. So, Taxi it was. Then it was the realisation that we had to try and communicate, in ITALIAN. I was hopeless, in fact I didn’t even attempt because I was far too scared (such a brit), thank the lord for Ezra!

So we were in Rome for 4 days and most of those days it was 36-37 degree heat. Scorching. We did as best as we could to get around by foot, but my god the street sellers selling iced cold water were our saviours. Although it was an absolute rip off at 2 euros a bottle it didn’t half save us from heat exhaustion. The worst thing about the heat was the fact there wasn’t anywhere to cool off that we knew about, there were lots of water stations but in that heat you just want to strip off and sit in very very VERY cold water. However, the only water that could of been an option was holy water, we didn’t think that would bode well with the Italians! BUT my most handiest tip for travelling around Rome in the heat is to church dive every 5 minutes. There are so many hidden churches on every street and what a life saver they are. From the outside they don’t look that appealing but what hidden beauties they all are. Every one is completely different and incredibly beautiful, plus they are freezing. The perfect remedy for over heated tourists.

We walked over 20,000 steps a day and saw sights such as the Roman forum, the Colosseum, Vittoriano (which was by far my favourite), Trevi fountain, The Vatican (heads up the most torturous journey to reach the top) and 100’s of churches. We did visit a lot more but for the life of me I can’t remember the names of all the places. One thing I really noticed though was that all the paths and streets were super slippy, I was slip sliding my whole way. Highly hilarious but equally terrifying, especially when you’re walking up some mammoth marble steps to get somewhere.

The food was also another highlight, but the photo’s we have aren’t the best looking. Italians really do know how to cook and the ice cream is top notch. Ezra was in absolute heaven, 3 course meals pretty much everyday. Espresso and croissants from Necci every morning and a complimentary Tiramisu every evening (well it would be rude not to).
We stayed out of the city in a hipster area known as Pigneto, 10 minutes journey away from Termini. We were based on the main high street and could hear the buzz of local Italians fine dining below our windows with the smell of pizza, pasta and fine wines on our door step.
It is so nice looking back and seeing how much we did, and absorbing all the culture. My goodness is it cultural! But there are so many sites we probably missed with each road leading to something incredible, as the saying goes all roads lead to Rome. I would encourage everyone once in their lifetime to visit Rome, è bellissimo!

Next stop Athens….

Blog-aversary – A life update.

IMG_20160807_145743

(Audience) – “Oh goodness here she is again, probably about to say the same start up line ‘It’s been a while’.

(Aimee) – “I’m back, AGAIN. It’s been a while!”

(Audience) – “I bet she apologies for it as well”

(Aimee) – “Once again I must apologise for being late to the party once again! February!! FEBRUARY, why have I left it so long?”

(Audience) – “I told you!”

*Commerce the waffling*

Hello you lovely lot, you’re probably wondering who the hell I am it’s been that long.
There have been dissertations, new careers, old careers, holidays, tears, laughter and a hell of a lot of procrastination since we last spoke. During that procrastination 6 months have upped and gone and I’m not sure where? But like I said in previous posts, it’s sort of how I work.
I feel like I have been running on empty so instead of squeezing out blog posts I’ve been doing everything other than that. However, I really want to turn things around and post more regularly – I’m sure you’ve heard all this before but I’m going to try, and there’s no harm in trying hey!

From the blog title, it’s my blog-aversary (hip hip hooray) and it’s not quite where I thought my little-rough-around-the-edges-blog would be but we’ve come a little way within 12months but we’re definitely moving.
I want to eventually re brand this blog to make it that little bit more glam and up to date for you all, who doesn’t love a refresh?!?
As for me, I am completely refreshing my life, well it certainly feels like it. I have finished my university degree and successfully passed with a 2:1. I really didn’t think it was do-able but I did it and I am so so thrilled about it, it’s motivated me to grab life by the balls and to give anything a go. So, I quit my job of nearly 5 years to pursue a new career. Pretty scary. So far it hasn’t turned out to plan and now I’m feeling slightly confused to where I’m heading in my life (any advice would be much appreciated), I feel like I have done all this hard work at uni to just land a job that I could of got without a degree. The thought of sitting in a office all day literally kills me as well, but I feel if I don’t try things then I won’t know if I like them or not, so that’s where I am at the minute. Feels like one of the weirdest times of my life to date, but it’s kind of exciting not knowing what’s round the corner.

Anyway, enough of the deep chat – I’ve done a lot of fun stuff since February and I will be sharing it with you all, so watch this space. I hope you’re prepared to be visiting Italy on your next dose of waffle! Grab that cup of tea and sneaky biscuit and I’ll give you a taste of my little Italian adventure.

I hope you have a great rest of the week/weekend and I’ll see you back on here before you know it – Ciao for now!

New approaches, rants and my brain.

//Hi m’lovelys.

It’s been a while and I do apologise. But the last couple of weeks I’ve had to take a step back and think to myself what is the relevance of my blog? I read an article the other day about blogging and it advised people not to blog if there is no inspiration or passion about what you are going to blog about. Unfortunately I found myself to be one of those bloggers. I want to blog but I have nothing to blog about that I find passionate, it feels like a chore, and it shouldn’t be that way.
//So I hear you ask what next? Well good question (any advice would be much appreciated). I want to do something different all the blogs I seem to see are about beauty, food, fitness & travel, which essentially I suppose is the majority of people’s lives but I am striving to be something different, and I am still trying to discover what gets my cogs working.

//I don’t know about you but I feel like a minority of people who have no hobbies or passions which I want to pursue (I definitely haven’t found it yet). Yes I enjoy a lot of things but nothing grabs me by the face and says YES I LOVE THIS! Is it just me? Hopefully not. I suffer with anxiety and watching a lot of Youtubers and reading other blogs I am not alone in this matter BUT again it is something I can not uniquely write about because it is EVERYWHERE. Although my anxiety has been behaving recently I can feel it creeping back in slowly- that pesky devil. It leaves my mind in a haze and that is exactly how I feel my blog is right now.
Stripping it back to my blog basics I am Aimée waffles so I am going to do what I think my blog should represent which is a good old hearty waffle, so I hope you have a cup of tea on you!…..and maybe a cheeky biscuit.

//Recently I feel like everything is getting on my nerves from the non existent summer, to my mother moaning, customers, work, going back to university, friends and people that don’t listen and ignore advice and do you know what annoys me the most?..me! Why do I let it annoy me, why do I take home all these frustrations with me and let it sit on my own shoulders because at the end of the day people make their own decisions and nobody can change that, maybe my brain thinks it can (ha, good luck with that brain).
I’m sat here with my cat sitting on my chest straining to look at the keyboard and computer screen trying to type something that has been pondering on my mind for a good month, so I am letting it out. LET IT GO as Elsa would say.
//I’ve decided that I am not going to force myself to blog deadlines, I have enough of them at work, I am not going to force my blog to have a particular theme if I like it then I will write something- I reckon this is my best approach.
Simplicity and no stress is where I’m heading.

So…

Let’s just roll with it and keep walking.

The beauty blogger awards.

//First of all THANK YOU everyone who has taken the time to hit that follow button, I appreciate each and every one of you, you beauty’s.
//Secondly a huge thank you for Kirstenemma for nominating me this award. She has a lovely little blog going on and I am sure she would love for more of you lovely’s to go and check her blog out.

Despite it being a competition what a fabulous way to get to know your followers such a great idea but there are a few rules to follow:

IMG_1071

So here are my answers to Kirstenemma questions….

  1. What has been your biggest Beauty/Fashion FAIL?
Oh gosh, probably anything I wore as a teenager! Super cringey looking back at those. It was all about studded belts, skinny jeans, skater brands, Emo hair and thick eyeliner….so gross. Funny thing is I really thought I was cool as well, no wonder the ‘chavs’ as we called them used to pick on us!
  2. What has been your biggest Beauty/Fashion TRIUMPH?
Sadly, I don’t think I have ever had one, gosh that sounds sad. One day it will!!
  3. What’s the best bit of beauty/fashion advice you can pass on?
One thing I would advise is dress for your body type. I am still learning this now. I mean I am still trying to find the perfect pair of jeans which can make my hips and thighs look in proportion but if you find clothes that fit your body type whether that be pear, hourglass, apple etc you will feel so much more confident.
As for beauty, personally I find simple is better (I suppose that goes for fashion too) find the right shade of foundation, bronzer, blusher, highlighter and a simple lip. It will just highlight your already beautiful features, whats the point of plastering yourself in make up to hide that face. Hand in hand in make-up goes skincare, I would definitely recommend looking after that skin, a great face wash, exfoliator and moisturiser will reek benefits, I use the Clinque anti-blemish set.
  4. Who in the public eye inspires you with either make-up/style?
Oo gosh I have tons of inspiration from the public eye.
Make-up I am really loving a beauty blogger/vlogger called Fleur de Force, that’s ideally how I would love my make-up to look like, but it never does (sigh).
As for style Fearne Cotton has been a massive inspiration, she can just pull off everything and I like her casual style. Baggy jumpers & skinny jeans, gosh I can’t wait for autumn jumpers to come out of the wardrobe. She just has that edge which I would love to pull off (I need her long skinny legs).
Along with Fearne I adore an actress called Kate Bosworth, She just dresses simple but beautifully. She’s very boho chic and boho is one of my favourite looks EVER.
  5. Who in the public eye is the total opposite to you in terms of style/make up?
Oo I am really going to have to think about this one…… probably people that are in The Only Way Is Essex, they are far too glam and caked in make-up for me!
  6. What is one fashion trend you just didn’t ‘get’?
Toms and crocs. GOSH! what even are they?!? I have never understood them especially when they were combined with chinos, the poor lads thought they were so cool didn’t they. Does make me giggle.
I can’t even stand crocs on children, they are just absolutely vile (apologises if you like/have them, eek!).
Other than that the only thing I can remember from the top of my head was back when I was a kid in the 90’s….those octopus trousers. What happened there?!?
  7. What is your go-to foundation?
I have just finished my go-to foundation and that is, Nars sheer glow. Unfortunately I’ve ran out so I am testing Rimmel Wake me up foundation. It brightens up your skin and has medium coverage so will last most of the day, especially if you use a primer. I am already missing Nars but atleast Rimmel has a foundation pump with it, it’s near enough impossible to get one for sheer glow! Thats the only downside.Nars-Sheer-Glow-Foundation-First-Impressions-Review-6 2
  8. What do you think your next beauty/fashion purchase will be?
Well I can easily answer this…..NARS!!! In fact I need to purchase a lot of beauty buys, I am going through that phase you get when everything runs out at the same time! Do you ever have that?
As for fashion, autumn/winter clothes are a must, I am really into the deep purples, oranges and greens this autumn! I can’t wait to get all cosy and all my tan bags and shoes will accompany everything this autumn even the trees, woo!
  9. What perfume are you loving right now?
I am not a perfume lover dun dun dunnnn! Any perfume/body spray gives me a headache which isn’t fun. I am more into nice smelling skin products such as Palmer’s cocoa butter, I use it everyday after my shower, it smells good and it leaves my skin silky smooth. As well as skin products I use vo5 high volume hair spray which has a gorgeous scent and I get a lot of comments of how nice the scent is.
  10. What is in your travel make-up bag?
These four products really help me spruce my face up through out the day, especially the Nars illuminator, it brightens up my face and gives it a refresh.I also always use an EOS lip balm but it looked a tad too used for a photograph.IMG_1064

Tee & Jeans

IMG_0915

//From forcing myself to take outfit posts I have come to the conclusion I definitely basics. T-shirt and jeans any day, it’s just so comfortable. As much as I love all types of clothes I’m not going to wear something that I don’t feel confident in, I mean who am I trying to impress? no one!
If you read my post from The best weekend then you might be suspicious that I am wearing the same clothes (oo your such a detectives). Yes I thought I would kill to birds with one stone, but not literally, I could never do that.

//My statement in any outfit I wear is that I am always accompanied with a tan bag or shoes, I have a thing for tan. All my bags look the same but are all a different shade of tan, it’s an addiction.
//Stripes is my second biggest addiction. I don’t know what it is about them but I am constantly buying stripes, I just think they are such a simple statement without having to go overboard and a plain striped tee won’t break the piggy bank which is always a bonus.

IMG_0893
IMG_0895

// So where is it all from did I hear?

TopOlive clothing based in Cheltenham, I could buy the whole shop if I could afford to and they have a lush Instagram account!

JeansASOS high waisted cropped ankle grazers! I prefer these to the Topshop Joni by a mile off. I can actually breathe in them and they graze my ankles! I haven’t come across any ankle grazer that does that for me.
In the Joni I have to go a waist size bigger just so my stomach can move, they fit me fine but they seem to have an extra tightness in that area. So if you have a similar problem head over to ASOS, cheaper as well and you don’t feel like your becoming a whale, you can fit into your actual size guys!

ShoesPrimark. I’ve had these for a while and they are lasting really well, I am not a big Primark fan as I feel everyone ends up having the same clothes, but so far I haven’t seen anyone in these shoes but I am sure thousands of folk have them.

Necklace- Accessorize. Cheap and cheerful gold necklace which pretty much goes with anything!

Bag- Topshop. This bag was a bit of an investment I must say it was around £60 and for a student it did break the piggies BUT I needed it. I have this ethic of if you want it buy it or else you’ll regret it, so many times I have resisted buying something and gone on to majorly regret it. So if you can’t stop thinking about it bite the bullet.

Let me know what you think! It was a right laugh trying to get photographs for this neither Ezra and I are models or photographers and he had to keep getting me to say B*******s to smile and look ‘natural’. If you like the look of the location it is definitely worth a visit all details are on a previous blog post called ‘A great weekend’.

While composing this blog I was watching a small Youtuber family called The Michalaks, I absolutely love them they are my all time favourite! Check them out!
I’m thinking of writing a blog post about my favourite youtubers, so watch this space!

Thanks guys! xx

The best weekend.

IMG_0749

//I’ve had the best weekend guys in what feels like ages. It is so nice to enjoy quality time with my other half that doesn’t involve sitting on the sofa bingeing on Netflix (let’s face it, we all do it!). After work on Saturday Ezra took me out to Birmingham to play crazy golf, (as in our minds we’re still children) and then he treated me to meal in a tapas bar, was lush BUT the photographs I took for it were pants.

However, Sunday was the best! It is crazy how oblivious to places that are literally on our door step. Ezra and I ended up visiting an English heritage property called Whitley Court which is 10minutes from Worcester city centre. I’d heard good things, and it seemed like our kind of place and it certainly was! It’s on the same road as my University and I was absolutely clueless, can’t wait to visit it back in the new academic year and get my revision underway (cough cough not the revision side).
There was so much to do there which included woodland walks, lakeside walks, ruins, stately gardens, rustic boathouse, the church and a really cute tea room.

//The building is grade I listed and was one of thee grandest buildings of the Midlands but now is an amazing ruin, caused by a fire in 1937 (thanks wikipedia!). Despite the wreckage it was absolutely breath taking. You could still see all the old fireplaces and remains of the wallpaper, every five minutes I would keep going wow, wow, WOW. I just found it so fascinating.

Whoaa…see I told you! Breathtaking. It looked like something that you would see in Rome. It had such a unique atmosphere and there was just so much to absorb. Out of everything Ezra was most interested in the organ, thats the musician in him!

//Even if seeing these kind of treasures don’t interest you I would definitely recommend the tea room. I mean who doesn’t like cake?!?.
£12.50 for a high tea for two, choice of a cake each (Ezra went for victoria sponge and I went for coffee and walnut, had to be done) a scone each with cream and jam and a choice of your own pot of tea. Despite it being lush there were wasps, WASPS everywhere. Ezra and I looked like right wimps flapping around everywhere whereas everyone else was casually ignoring there personal wasps attacks.

A week in Wales.

//Wales, where do I begin. I go to Pembrokeshire every year since around the age of 10, so 12 years strong so far! Really frustrates me when folk say Wales is constantly wet and miserable, it’s not, it’s all lies.
IMG_20150807_134051
Every year my Grandparents rent out the same old fashioned (awfully decorated might I add) welsh cottage in a place called Marloes, it is my whole families favourite place. So rural and rustic and all you can hear is the sea, no traffic, no people…nothing. Pure bliss. All we do on holiday is beach hop and eat, a lot. Well who doesn’t hey? It’s just so nice to be away from work and rushing around all the time and the best part NO HOUSEWORK all week! I could actually read a book and not feel guilty for not doing something productive.

We literally spent all week lounging around, Ezra, my Dad and Granny would be trying to surf all week (I only went in the sea once, naughty and yes my Granny body boards!) and my Granddad would just be eating all week, that’s all he seems to do ha! Every evening we would get back from the beach and have dinner then just bake next to the fire with a glass of wine in hand, or in Ezra’s case..rum. You can imagine how merry he was every evening.

This place was a right old treat, all the years I have been to Pembroke we never knew about the blue lagoon and typically we forgot to take any of our swimming gear, the water looked incredible, I’ve never seen anything like it! We were so annoyed we couldn’t go in and it was scorching weather too!

We visited this cafe twice called Foam in Milford, which is a huge harbour basically flaunting rich people’s boats! We can dream.

I have so many more photo’s I wish to add but I’ve had a problem getting them developed, and typically the film which needs to be sent off is the film with all the decent snaps regrettably.
But I defintely needed that break and I am already craving being next to the sea and we all had an incredible time, especially this guy…N’aww look at that face.

A tribute.

This weekend my perspective on life changed. A person who I knew barely enough to call an acquaintance turned my mind into an emotional rollercoaster.

I suspected there was something wrong, I hadn’t heard her or seen her for about two weeks and I noticed little things such as the washing wasn’t on the line (like it normally was) or the loud pitter patters of her and her children’s feet running around upstairs – a guaranteed alarm clock.
Then on social media there it was, confirmed. She had passed away from breast cancer barely even in her 30’s. Although I never knew this lady properly I feel like I knew her well, being neighbours I practically saw and heard everything that was going on and I felt like I knew her. It is amazing what you know about a person without knowing them, I knew she was one of a kind who lived for her family, she was funny, outspoken and just a joy to have met. I used to catch her sitting in the garden, eyes closed and feeling the warmth of the sun on her face appreciating the little things that we take for granted.
It takes one hell of a lady to battle through breast cancer but the fact she carried on life regardless and you would of never of known. Nothing stopped her and I could see this without having to be next to her but obviously you don’t know what happens behind closed doors.
What a woman. Everyday so far there hasn’t be a single moment I haven’t thought about her, sat writing this now a few tears have shed. Practically a stranger and she has really touched me, making me realise you can not predict the future, WE need to live life. Waiting to save for a house, stuck in a dead end job you hate, waiting to travel or the thought of ‘oh I’ll do this and that next week’ – there might not be a next week. Now that scares me, I think it scares everyone to some degree. But from this lovely lady I will appreciate the wind on my face, the rain ruining my make-up and the warmth of the sun. S5ODui1438003717
I am going to begin to remember how lucky I am and what I have, even if I do hate my dead end job someone out there would give anything for it. And my poor boyfriend, I forget how lucky I am to have him and he’s put up with me for nearly four years – poor bugger.
